  1. Starting with the Spanish Civil War, written on airplanes. Are airplanes a machine? Check. History of war machines? I'd start with battering rams, crossbows and trebuchets. But it's not until WWI that wholesale slaughter was facilitated by war machines. 18 years later, Spanish Civil War. Proving ground for Nazi war technology. Cut to Woody Guthrie's guitar. Machine? Not exactly, but therein lies the commentary and interest. Is the machine the guitar alone, or Woody AND the guitar? Could the guitar be labeling Woody a machine?
    So here we are.
Is the Cross like the guitar?
Is the machine the Cross AND Jesus?
    Is the Cross labeling Jesus?
Is the coaster like the guitar?
Is the machine the coaster and the artwork?
Is the coaster labeling the artwork or Cross?
    Artist??
