"Follow You Down", Gin Blossoms

I hadn't thought about this song in years and years and, then, Steve Earle played it last weekend on his radio show on Outlaw Country (I know - he likes to stray sometimes).

Would that all pop songs were this well made...

Follow You Down...

  1. Liking things is better than disliking. Feeling something is often better than thinking something. So good for you. Could be you are paying more attention to lyric than I'm willing or able. It's a standard production musically. [I've just deleted further criticism.]

  2. It's a feeling for me, yes. The lyrics are simple, nothing to write home about, but not embarrassing either. For me, it's the melody vocal and words all together. For me. Acknowledging that you could have 20 pop songs side by side, and ten people in a room and you say, you know, which one do you think is the best, or do you like the best. And you could easily have ten different answers. It's the feeling you get, as you say; who can say everybody will have that same response? And it is standard production, I agree. But I felt the same way about it 15 or 20 years ago, the last time I heard it, as I do now. Tons of stuff that wouldn't remain the same...

  3. Sorry on that last sentence - tons of stuff I wouldn't feel the same about 15 or 20 years on.

And, also, when I say well-made, I mean it has such a clean sound to it, but it didn't sound "slick", if I can make that differentiation...
