"The Enormous Radio"

How to explain this one.  First, let's start with - pen on torn pages from the Collected Stories of John Cheever (paperback, 12 pages of text, six total torn pages), 7 x 4.5 inches, each page.  This from early 2017 when we were still living in Greenwood, Seattle.

And so maybe you know the story, but after re-reading it in 2017, I decided, you know, what if I lined out all the sentences in the story that did NOT mention the word "radio"?  And so I did.  (Right - your guess is as good as mine.)  But in truth, thinking back, I believe the intention was then to 1. read the story out loud with only the remaining sentences, the sentences that mentioned the word "radio", and see if that, perhaps, created anything interesting.  And then, if it did, 2. to transcribe the remaining sentences into a new, shorter, even more radio-centric version of the Cheever classic.  I have yet to do 1. or 2., but I plan to knock out at least the first tomorrow, and I'll be sure and let you know if anything interesting comes of it.

"I Got A New Complaint"

Pen on torn notebook paper, 4.25 x 6 inches, November 23rd, 2013, Little Red Hen, Seattle.

Please refer to the note on the blog post immediately preceding this one, as it would apply here as well.  I would only add that, in terms of inspiration, it is absolutely connected to both versions of Box Shaped Heart, which appear in these pages on July 6th, 2012 (pre-dating this), and then again on January 9th, 2018.

Pen on note paper, 5.5 x 4 inches, Metropolitan Grill, Seattle, January 20th, 2013.

I have multiple files with items that are in different stages of, let's charitably call it, "completion".  This little guy was in my "maybe some day I'll redo that one more formally" box.  But as I was going through EVERYTHING the last few days, it occurred to me that the dashed off nature of this one is in sync with many of my other drawings, and I believe this one is actually finished, and I just didn't realize it.  Happy to welcome it to the ongoing catalogue.

"Limerick"

There once was a man from Bethlehem,
born to die on a cross (can I get an "Amen"?).
He cried out to his father -
"Had I been your only daughter?
Likely bonbons and ponies 'stead of Blood of the Lamb."
