By the elongated form factor, it appears a crop was made. I like the result but you are running the danger of being consumed by photoshop and post-processing as am I. The proverbial slippery slope indeed. The next thing I'd do is make it a black and white and tweak the contrast - possibly reducing it. Thanks for sharing the image.
