(Untitled Photograph by Lynn Charles Riser)

Mr. Riser fashioned this image in his studio (The Fletcher) in Tacoma, Washington. I thought it fit nicely with some of the other recent IBL materiel.

  1. Refreshingly understated. Subtle textures that still hold interest. Even some welcome ambiguity: Is that marble or skin?
Diffuse positive and sharp negative space forming the small subject. A shadow cast or a void absorbing the light? Is the light a reflection or an emanation? Straight scored marks crossing the light and deeper in shadow impart age. Or streaks of asteroids through the cosmos? The red ring echoes the shape of the light. A lens flare or stain of a wine soaked chalice?

  2. Some day I will explain to you the story behind this shot; it will not change your assessment, of course. It's a very interesting photo to my mind...
